Overview

Matthew Peter Phaedonos is an experienced lawyer with an expertise in Family Law, Criminal Law and Estate Claims.

Matthew was admitted to practice on 19 February 2008, where he immediately commenced practice at Borchard and Moore Lawyers under the tutelage of Bernard John Moore and Adrian John Triaca.

In March 2012, Matthew was offered an equal partnership at Borchard and Moore, partnering with the now retired Bernard until 30 June 2020. Thereafter becoming the sole principal.

In April 2014, Matthew was offered an opportunity to partner up with former Borchard and Moore partner, Adrian and together they purchased O’Neil Behan & Associates. Thereafter in August 2016 Matthew became sole principal, renaming O’Neil Behan & Associates, the present day Phaedonos Law.

Today Borchard and Moore and Phaedonos Law work cohesively together from two separate locations in under Matthew’s guidance with experienced lawyers, conveyancing clerks, estate clerks and support staff.

Areas of expertise

Family Law

Matthew practices in Family Law and personally looks after clients from their first consultation, often appearing in-person on behalf of his clients with in-depth knowledge on all matters pertaining to Family Law whether complex parenting or property matters.

Matthew provides specific advice to his clients and is clear with their options at each stage which includes anticipating how matters may result based on the facts presented to him. Matthew aims to achieve effective and efficient outcomes for his clients.

Criminal Law

Matthew also practices in Criminal Law and again personally looks after clients from their first consultation, appearing in-person on behalf of his clients in pleas of mitigation and mention hearings for the accused only. Matthew provides advice based on the evidence produced by prosecution and his clients.

Matthew’s representation of clients and expertise extends to all forms of prosecution by Police, Local Council, RSPCA, ATO, ASIC, CASA and other bodies.

Estate Claims

Borchard and Moore Lawyers and Phaedonos Law has a rich history in assisting with the settling of estates whether by Grant of Probate or Grant of Letters of Administration.

However, when an estate is contested, Matthew becomes involved assessing whether there is merit in a claim under the provisions of Part IV of the Administration and Probate Act and otherwise defending estates subject to these claims.

Matthew works with experienced barristers in this field while preparing all paperwork required to progress these matters to resolution and providing sensible advice on how matters may resolve to keep costs to a minimum.
